The Beach Boys Announce 50th Anniversary Tour Dates

February 15, 2012 No comments yet

Was it just me, or was there an uncomfortable amount of people (way past their teenage years, mind you) who were getting too excited about the DMB tour dates that were supposedly released today? I didn’t read many tweets of people getting geeked about The Beach Boys reunion tour starting up this summer, and that is just deploring. Despite the disputes and passing of the Wilson brothers (RIP) the surviving members of the band will be sharing the stage around the world, with appearances at Bonnaroo and Jazz Fest. Did I mention John Stamos will be performing too? Rumor has it that there is a new album on the way as well.

Check out their stellar performance at the Grammys with appearances from Maroon 5 and Foster the People. Tour dates after that. Will you be catching the surfing rock legends this summer?

Mansions on the Moon finally drops their long awaited EP executively produced by Pharrell. This is that shit I’ve been waiting for since mid-2011. If you’re a fan of Washed Out, Foster The People – or any other good music in general, don’t leave your head under the pillow. Big things ahead for these talented musicians!

Umphrey’s McGee – Baba O’Riley (Live at Super Bowl Village, Indianapolis)

February 9, 2012 2 comments

According to Forbes, the real winner of the Super Bowl this year was Indianapolis. Fortunately (and unfortunately at times) I was around the downtown area most of the week and it was one big zoo. Saw a few shows, ran into some pro athletes (Jerome Bettis tapped me on the shoulder at a nightclub, no joke) and overall had a great time, but the real winner in my eyes was the free show UMPH put on the night before the Super Bowl. They brought the energy and even people who were waiting for O.A.R (yeah, them) were vibing out.

One thing this six-piece band is known for is their ability to create resounding covers and go their way with it. They surely had the crowd jumping for “Teenage Wasteland” (the song name according to some frat dudes next to me) and it was clear they made some new fans that night. Check it below, and hit that widget to download the whole show FO FREE! It’s a great one if you’ve never listened to them and want some good introductory songs.

Gonna be that blogger and slip in this instrumental they played that night, only because it is a beautiful piece of art.

Slightly Stoopid ft. Don Carlos – Wiseman (Video)

February 7, 2012 6 comments

Haven’t heard from Slightly Stoopid in minutes, but it looks like they have a live CD/DVD from their sessions at the TRI Studios hitting the masses in a matter of time. The video above features a nice mellow song from the sessions featuring reggae legend Don Carlos! The bonus video below is one of my favorite tracks by Stoopid and features a funky horn solo that is surely not to be missed. Hopefully they are past their ska/punk phase and continue to make some more insatiable reggae vibes. Don’t be STOOPID!

Their only announced tour date for the summer so far is the Wakarusa Festival which takes place in Ozark, Arkansas. They have a killer lineup this year with some MJF favorites so don’t forget to check it out and be sure to make a decision quick as the event pass prices increase this Saturday, the 11th. Jack White – Love Interruption (Stream)

First single from his upcoming SOLO album Blunderbuss dropping in April. This is giving me a serious Civil Wars vibe, which is nothing that I can really complain about. This will be going on sale tonight on iTunes, and there will be a 7″ available as well. Pretty excited about the album based off this one track!

Pretty Lights – We Must Go On (Video + MP3)

January 29, 2012 3 comments

Ever since Pretty Lights blew up into the mainstream spotlight, he fell off my musical radar. Then I heard this track and completely fell in love with the Derek Smith that I used to know and love. It takes me back to the hip hop and soulful stylings from Taking Up Your Precious Time so if you were ever into that, you’ll know what I’m talking about. See what Pretty Lights had to say about the new single below and make sure to ‘Right Click + Save As’ that MP3!

The music video was created by Derek Vincent Smith (Pretty Lights) and his girlfriend Krystle Blackburn (PLM’s creative Director).
While the two of them traveled together all over the world during 2011, they filmed as much as their schedule allowed. Locations included in the video include Detroit, Warsaw, NYC, Vancouver, Toronto, London, Paris, Prague, Australia, New Zealand, Denver and many more.
The aim with the video was to accomplish multiple things:
1 – Create a visual accompaniment for the music that added depth and complexity to the emotions being channeled by the music and lyrics… Rather than tell a story, communicate a range of feelings and open ended ideas.
2 – Create a piece of art that speaks to the name “Pretty Lights” The name was originally intended to capture the essence of inspiration and speak to the nature of the artistic eye, so this video combines captivating imagery with beautiful lights in an organic and creative manner.
3- To accomplish the first two things in a way that captures the attention of the viewer and does not let go. The element of precise synchronicity combined with quickly and creatively edited shots brings the video and music together in a way that unites the two like never before.
It truly is one piece of art.

Lana Del Rey – Video Games (BUHAY Remix)

January 27, 2012 1 comment

I’ll admit, I kinda slept on Lana Del Rey even though she has been posted on MJF thousands of times. It’s not because I’m not interested, her songs have always been a little too slow for me. Then on Wednesday, I headed down to B-Town to catch the Paper Diamond show and drink a few too many 15¢ beers. The first opener was Bloomington based BUHAY (pronounced Boo-High) who was turning heads when he dropped the ‘Video Games’ remix on the crowd who went crazy for it! While the original version is a bit too passive for an electronic concert, Buhay retains the originality while adding some percussions and synth – making it more uptempo and friendly for live shows. Add this to your click-wheel iPod ASAP!

BLOOMINGTON PEEPS – catch him opening up for Above & Beyond at the Bluebird on 2/7. More info here.
