Shlohmo – wen uuu (Salva Remix)

February 1, 2012 1 comment

We heard the original Shlohmo track last month which will be released on the upcoming Vacation EP, out digitally February 7th. Cali based Producer Salva reworked “wen uuu” and took it to an even colder place than it originally began. It’s one of those special kind of beats that completely envelopes you when you listen to it. This remix along with others done by artists including Nicolas Jaar (!) and Groundislava will be released on a 12″ version of the EP out February 14th.

Gym Class Heroes ft. Neon Hitch – Ass Back Home (Brenton Duvall Remix)

I want to live inside and atop Neon Hitch’s hindquarters.

You know the drill… Brenton Duvall aka “Mr. Compliment Your Girl With No Ulterior Motives of Sex” bka “Mr. Pay Your Girl’s Spotify Premium Account” is back with another delightful little ditty. Also, never forget that Travie McCoy’s bloodline is responsible for creating Tyga… so adjust your love/hate for him accordingly.

Lianne La Havas – Forget (Shlohmo remix)

Many moons ago when we were still in our lust stage with the “Seconds Please” series I shared a cover by another member of my girl crush club, Lianne La Havas. Some of you sensitive readers may have gotten a chance to see her open for Bon Iver since then, as she’s been bopping around the US all winter. Anyways, just this week remixes of “Forget” have started to surface on the interwebs and this one is brilliant. Shlohmo takes the song to a cold, dark, place that audibly depicts the overall vibe of the original track, although I have only heard live versions of Lianne’s ballad. When hearing it in comparison to the live take it’s nearly unrecognizable (save for the vocals) but not in a bad way, in a very very good way. You can still get her Live EP for free via this link if you want more La Havas in your life.

Friendly Fires – Pala Remixes

These remixes (minus the Carl Craig edit) are included on the bonus edition of Pala, one of my most enjoyed albums of last year. Friendly Fires makes the kind of music that remixes look good on and now that I’m saying it I don’t think I’ve heard a remix prior to these. The set features reworks by Carl Craig, Tensnake, Tiga, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Benoit & Sergio, and Tim Green. I highly recommend checking out the album (it’s free on Spotify) if you haven’t done so already and the Bonus Track Edition is available for not free on iTunes. The remixes are quite the pick me up, I’m currently partial to the Benoit & Sergio and Tim Green edits but they’re all nicely done. I barely even noticed that I was listening to “Hurting” three different times in the set.

Ecid – Kings Of Compton (NWA x Kings Of Leon)

For those not comfortable enough to listen to Kings Of Leon amongst their friends, Minneapolis emcee/producer Ecid does the right thing and throws Eazy, Ren, Cube & Dre over KOL beats. You are now witnessing the strength of street knowledge Kings of Leon.

“The idea for this project basically came as I was hanging out with my friend Chuck U, brainstorming my next creative endeavor and he convinced me I should do a mash-up album. Since I rap and make all my own beats for my other projects, sometimes my own production gets over-looked by the rapping so I really wanted something that would challenge me production-wise, but could also showcase my style. After we tossed around different combinations I joked “shit, why not Kings Of Leon and NWA?” and right away the light bulb went on and we came up with Kings Of Compton.”

Drake & The Weeknd – Crew Love (Young L Dubstep Rmx)

Young L has always been criminally slept on in my opinion. Artists like Tyga, Soulja Boy & even L’s brother from The Pack have gone on to capitalize off the L E N’s signature sound. This refix of Aubrey and Abel’s late-night croon takes the song to new highs and lows with controlled wobbles and marked codeine chops. I’ve been getting played out Weeknd remixes in the inbox all week long, but this one is the Daddy.

Hood by Air – Swaggot Trilltape (Mixtape)

“THE SOUNDS YOU REMEMBER AFTER YOU EXIT THE CLUB ON YOUR WAY HOME.”

This mix from Hood By Air‘s Shayne Oliver really grabbed my attention right away with the chipmunk Rozay. Oliver effortlessly transplants some of our favorites like Jim Jones & Meek Mill from the concrete to the operating room, in a woozy chopped & drugged date rape-step.

Dirty Diana Mash-up Cover

Download: The Weeknd & Michael Jackson – Dirty Diana (A JAYBeatz Mashup)

Mr. Jay Beatz is back with the another mash-up, this time pitting the opening track/cover from The Weeknd’s Echoes of Silence with the original version of Dirty Diana to great results. What do y’all think of this? Also, what do y’all think of The Weeknd’s cover? What do y’all think of Echoes of Silence? What do y’all think about frilly toothpicks? Leave comments so we know people actually read this shit. We truly care about your opinion. Let’s foster a community! Yay! Rejoice!

Oh… and JAY sent me this on Christmas, but I was too busy being festive (read: drunk) to bother posting it on MJF. My bad, mayne!
