Frank Ocean’s Major Label Debut Pushed Back

Earlier this morning, singer and songwriter Frank Ocean answered a fan’s question about his Nostalgia EP via Tumblr. The Def Jam re-release, which was supposed to come out today (7/26), seems to have been pushed back. Concerning its release date, Def Jam’s website simply says the project is “coming soon.”

I was just thinking about this the other day. Besides the play “Novacane” and a few other songs have gotten on the radio, I haven’t really seen any promotion for this project. With all of the buzz he had going, I figured I’d see tons of promo from Def Jam for it, but that hasn’t been the case.

However, what has been seen is Frank collaborating with some of the biggest names in the industry. You can’t buy that kind of exposure. It makes perfect sense that the project is delayed considering he’s been working with the likes of Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Nas. That’s quite remarkable for someone without an album barcode to their name. My hope is that instead of re-releasing his Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape as an EP, Def Jam has decided to record new material for a full-out LP. I couldn’t imagine that the aforementioned big-name artists wouldn’t lend a hand by appearing on that.

The only concrete date that we have now for Frankie is “Before Detox.”
