Not everyone can pull off making a slow jam. Sometimes it come across as cartoonish parody of an R. Kelly song, and not in a good way either. Only Dave Chappelle can do that. For tonight’s LNS, I’ve decided to dig into the archives and pull out one of the jewels of the Bay Area: Oakland crooner J. Nash. I used to watch this video and send texts back and forth with friends trying to understand what I had just watched. And now, 4 years later, I still have no clue what this video was supposed to be. From the bubble vest to the dance moves to the lyrics, this was like a bad Turquoise Jeep song before I knew who Slick Mahony was. And can I please have a moment of silence for the shirt toss at the 1:08 mark? I wonder how that happened. Who’s idea was that, and why has it not been recreated since?
Anywho, as a bonus, one more J. Nash video. And for the off chance you love the song so much to purchase it, here’s the link for the “Soap Opera” album. I’m pretty sure that album has a Myspace link in the artwork somewhere.
