The last time we heard from Drake he was readying a posthumous album for fallen R&B singer Aaliyah. But it seems he may be working on some music of his own. Today a track, titled “Where Were You,” surfaced from the Canadian rapper.
“Where Were You,” which was likely produced by 40, features Drake reminiscing on a former flame. He sings lines like “You could’ve had my heart by now” and “I can’t put this behind me” as he wonders about the whereabouts of a love lost. The synthy production also features a guest appearance by Dawn Richard, who is gearing up to release her first solo album, GoldenHeart, on October 16.
Check out “Where Were You” below:
Drake – Where Were You ft. Dawn Richard
“Where Were You” is an interesting offering from the part time singer. It has that signature 40 feel, but still feels quite progressive with its use of electronic synths. As a whole, though, the song isn’t particularly notable. Pretty standard Drake fare. However, I must praise Dawn for her contribution. As has become typical of the singer, she plays with her vocal delivery and projection to channel the ominous undertones of the track. I’m not sure where this track will end up, but I wouldn’t mind it be reworked with more Dawn for her upcoming album.
