In the midst of a relatively slow music day, the good kid in a m.A.A.d city drops a new joint on us. Like some of his previous work, Kendrick uses some funky voice manipulation to give us a taste of that Houston style while preserving the flow that makes him so unique. On the surface it seems like a drinker’s anthem, but it’s quite the cautionary tale. A clever move, slipping that message into a more pop-oriented beat (watch the hi-hat) produced by T-Minus. No real quotables so I doubt it’ll get much radio play, but it ain’t chopped liver either.
Make sure to cop Kendrick Lamar’s debut record good kid, m.A.A.d city when it shows up in stores in early October.
