Seconds, Please: Volume One
October 14, 2011 7 comments
We’re gonna try out a new series on MJF this week. The basic idea is a random assortment of MJF bloggers will post the songs they have been obsessing over all week. There’s a lot of us so we’re hoping to have a nice variety of music to share with you loyal readers every Friday. Some songs may have already been posted, others might be brand new to the site, and there may even be some tracks pulled straight out of the archives, THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS. Hit the jump and see what songs we’re asking for seconds on.

Download: NewVillager – Bad Past Gone Away
This was one of the many songs that somehow ended up on my iPod during a music binge and I had never heard it until it shuffled on one day. I’ve mentioned NewVillager in a previous post , and I don’t know, there’s just something about them that I love-most likely the weirdness. “Bad Past Gone Away” puts me in a good mood every time I hear it and then I get upset when it ends because it’s really short, which leads to a guaranteed replay. Hopefully some of you will have a similar listening experience.

Drake & The Weeknd – Trust Issues (JAYBeatz Mashup) by JAYBeatz

Yeah…I’ve listened to Drake 74 times this week, I’ll explain. The inimitable @Catf1sh alerted me to this mash-up earlier in the week. I had heard the original Gizzle mash-up way back when, but that really isn’t so much a mash-up as it is just combining a song and it’s cover. But JAYBeatz version… JAYBEATZ VERSION… is hands-down superior. That added infusion of “I’m On One” is brilliant. I know, I know. This jawn is “old” by the kids’ standards now a days. However, I sit at a desk for 8 hours producing mounds of written content. I need music that I can put on in the background and zone out. It doesn’t get much better than this. Plus, after discovering some of my co-workers are snitching on my “on the clock” tweeting/blogging, the repetitious “I don’t trust these bitches” and “Fuck everybody” lyrics really resonate with my mindset right now. If JAYBeatz could revamp this and add the Biebz’ “Trust Issues” cover into this mix then my life would be complete. I’m such a simp.

Papadosio – All I Knew
I saw these guys last night and this song has been stuck in my head since. Everyone around me was tripping face and it felt like I was on the same level sans the drugs. They are as fun to see live as it is to pronounce their name. I posted their label sampler album a few weeks back and this track is included on it. Vibe out, get lost in the guitar solo…and if you choose to, Pop a dose, yo!

The Weeknd – Initiation
If you’ve got the privilege of following me on twitter you’d already know this is my pick. From Weeknd’s upcoming ‘Echoes of Silence’ project, this track is everything I love about The Weeknd in one song. The concept is more or less some girl being introduced to intravenous drug use and recklessly passed around amongst the XO crew. The lyrics are amazing. ‘Work that back til I turn you out. Roll that weed, blow the fire out. Taste that lean when you kiss my mouth. Get so wet when I eat you out. Girlfriend screaming that I’m creeping out.’ Obviously Abel will never be able to perform some of these songs, but his self-aware yet inebriated narrative on here takes us into a drug fueled bender amongst him and his boys. Lean, cocaine and unproductive sex sounds like an underworld I could only imagine. This is what a drug haze sounds like on wax.
