George Maple – and my day is made. Don’t let the name fool you, George is a girl and while it was her descriptive link to Jessie Ware (who was on pretty much EVERY Mostly Junk Food’ers “best of” list) that grabbed my attention, it’s George’s voice that made me stay. While you might have previously heard her on Flume’s “Bring You Down,” her chilled out-soul-electronic debut single “Uphill” is all her own. While this isn’t necessarily a new sound (sounds like Jessie Ware, Made In Heights, Rhye), this song is enough to keep me VERY interested in what her other releases will be. Only time will tell if she is simply a one-post wonder or someone with staying power; but for now, her song is making my day and that’s enough.
