One of the delightful surprises from The Foreign Exchange’s exceptional 2011 live DVD/CD “Dear Friends: An Evening with the Foreign Exchange” was how special their supporting vocalists were. Usually commissioned for strict harmony duties, backup vocalists Sy Smith (whose, less exceptional, Fast and Furious album was released earlier this year) and Jeanne Jolly shined on tracks that didn’t seem like they needed them originally. No small feat for a background artist.
Raleigh, NC singer/songwriter Jeanne Jolly has a full length album slated for release on October 2nd entitled Angels, (through +FE Music) and her lead single “Sweet Love” is all you need know about why she rightfully deserves to be thrust into the foreground. The tender, “Alison Krauss meets Joss Stone” groove here stands up with some of the best contemporary soul/jazz I’ve heard in recent memory.
