The research lover in me goes gaga for intricate sampling and Lilacs & Champagne is doing just that. Lilacs & Champagne is the sample project of Alex Hall and Emil Amos (of Grails). “Sour/Sweet” is the first track we’re hearing from the release and I am INTO it. This is a track for the 3 am hour, it almost puts you in a daze just by listening. In a way it reminds me of a beat Kendrick or Ab-Soul would glide over. But in another way, the last thing I want is for someone to distract me from the sultry feel of “Sour/Sweet.”
Now, I’ve saved probably the most interesting aspect of the track for last. APPARENTLY, Lilacs & Champagne is sampling sounds sourced from Scandinavian porn and hyper-obscure b-movies from the late 1960’s. Not something you hear everyday. Yet, something I’d be okay with hearing more of everyday. Never thought I’d say that. Also, thumbs up to the visual accompaniment.
