summer songs.

In case you didn’t notice the heatwave, it’s summer. If you’re in Indiana, that means literally choking on air. If you’re in Ohio, that means you should probably kill yourself now that LeBron left and Cedar Point is the lone remaining object of interest in the Buckeye State (ouch.) If you’re somehow affording to live out on the coasts right now, that means a lot of beautiful people are showing a lot of skin and – when not spending half an afternoon/evening in traffic – enjoying some kick-ass weather.
I like listening to mellow stuff during the summer usually. Windows down, something that reminds me that the sun is out and even on the worst day, life is good. I had these songs last summer. This is what I’ve got for you now:
I’ll probably write up a separate post for Seabear at some point, but this is just an incredible, mellow song. The lyrics are complex and poetic; everything about that encapsulates lying down in the freshly-cut grass and closing my eyes.
Kyle Andrews – You Always Make Me Smile
Yeah, I’m a huge Kyle Andrews fan. You probably get that by now. I realize the opinion is not shared by all. I love this song though, and it’s gotten Kyle plenty of airtime on TV lately. Kyle actually wrote the song while stuck in a motel room on a rainy day in Nashville with his roommate Neil – the object being to write a ridiculously sunny song that would drive the rain away. I think it worked.
Bearbot – Me and You (Peter, Bjorn and John remix)
Bearbot takes some classic vocals and cuts them with Cut Copy for an interesting mix. Result: she created something that goes well with summer.
Albert Hammond, Jr. – Miss Myrtle
Strokes guitarist gone solo Albert Hammond, Jr.’s ‘Come Te Llama’ is one of my favorite albums of the last few years. I love this track in particular. Extra points when it hits Random Play All on a sunny day.
