it’s easy to feel like you’re close friends with Wiz Khalifa, through his videos where he teaches us how to roll the perfect joint and most recently sharing a joint with Wacka Flocka.

Dude is a straight clown. One of the most Googled names of 2010 and arguably the most popular artist on mjf. Watch as he is interviewed by someone who is Way Zooted lingering on his J and as his iPhone screen shatters, effectively answering Stuart’s question of “why is Wiz tweeting from a BlackBerry and not an iPhone anymore”

if you’re in Indianapolis, you already know Wiz & his stoner giggle will be taking over Thursday and Friday. Tickets just might not be available. We’re gonna be in the house though. Holler at Ben and say WHUSH GOODIE

“Material posessions – at least we have our friends, our health and I’m getting some pussy”

is this real life????? just in case you missed it – Kanye performed in black headband and fur vest on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day float complete with dancing statues of liberty and taxi cabs, and maybe most significantly, a rousing introduction from arch-nemesis Matt Lauer.

it would definitely be a lot cooler if he had a live mic…..this makes it seem more like Jingle All the Way, but still definitely worth a look for shits & gigs

Love this e-series.  It’s been up on The WB’s site, surprisingly enough, for a while.  But they’re moving it to Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block on July 11.  And then, starting in August, the second season will premier on Adult Swim.

‘Childrens’ Hospital’ is loaded with prominent comedians, including showrunner Rob Corddry and most of the Upright Citizens Brigade.  Michael Cera, Ed Helms, Ken Marino and David Wain are also thrown in for good measure.  If you’ve ever had the unfortunate privilege of sitting through an hour of [insert medical drama here], nothing should be lost in translation.

On a semi-related note, I think comedy is making a huge comeback right now.  I’m a huge David Wain (‘Stella’, ‘Wet Hot American Summer’…more recently ‘Role Models’) fan, so I love all these irreverent, surrealist troupes that are really beginning to spawn.  It seems like most of them are linking up too (i.e. in this case, Wain and Marino are from ‘The State’, working alongside Upright Citizens Brigade, Human Giant and Apatow, ‘Party Down’ with some combination of all these groups.)

Catch up on the webisodes on the link included at the top of the post, or wait for them to air on Adult Swim.  Also, apologize for the absence.  Got a lot going on in my life right now, some good some bad, and this blog is in fine hands without me.  Surely more musically-cultured hands, anyway.  Don’t know how I rate here, but in the little free time I’ve had, I’ve been trying to put together a more film-and-TV-centered blog project.  If it ever turns out how I want, I’ll (with permission) toss out a link.  Until then, enjoy the EEEEEEEEEEEEs!

the 90s strike back.

I honestly don’t know what surprises me more, that Hanson is still able to demand such a high quality of video production or that Weird Al is still alive to direct it (and play tambourine, for good measure.)  Does anyone else remember that distinct time in the later 90s when every radio station’s lineup was some combination of Hanson, Smash Mouth, Dru Hill and Natalie Imbruglia?  Christ, I still remember my early days of music piracy ripping songs from the radio courtesy my boombox’s tape deck – nothing like taking the dogs around the neighborhood with a ridiculous-ass Walkman in hand, listening to “Wild Wild West” – and using my computer microphone to record low-quality playbacks of Puff Daddy (“Come With Me”, pre-Diddy) and Third Eye Blind (which = still one of my favorite 90s bands.)

Aw, nostalgia.  Or our generation’s concept of it.  In other internet video news, Game has officially endorsed Justin Bieber and this batshit crazy guy from Finland plays the drums with giant icicles (when not hitting himself in the head repeatedly with a newspaper or taking his cats to the sauna.)  MJF challenge: alter your mind in some way and attempt to watch all 691 of his equally-WTF videos without absolutely freaking out.

Haha, if the above image makes no sense to you, then you’re just missing out.

Shout out to everyone’s best bud Paulas, who got the word out about this awesome website called Snacks and Shit.  The premise of the site, basically, is that it takes the lamest/gayest/weirdest bars committed to tracks and proceeds to clown on them.  The DMX ones are, as expected, pure gold.

holy ungodly awful batman!

addison park
the “band” addison park, openening act for Mike Posner

[DISCLAIMER: friends of friends of friends may or may not be in the band. i've already twice without this knowledge given people my honest opinion about the group, so protected by the magical interweb i'm not going to sugarcoat it. i can see how some people may like this kind of music...i would judge these people obviously. i mean, i'm not going to lie i have some Daphne Loves Derby on the iPod, but i'm not going to book them to open up for Brother Ali]

that being italicized, it should also be noted that MJF contributor stuart bentley mcwhirter is a member of 2 (TWO) bands that are more listenable. the fresh boy all-stars and keeping tabs. and i’ve probably recorded better songs on the T-Pain iphone app that I don’t even remember than “Bay Area Blues”

onward (more…)
