thanks again to the prototype on the mic, Chiddy from Chiddy Bang for taking some time to answer my questions about the upcoming album, working with Black Thought & The Roots, the remix to “Never” with Killer Mike & XV and his favorite blunts/junkfood choices. full interview after the jump

What’s your favorite junkfood spot to hit up when you got the munchies?

I mean when I’m in New York in Manhattan I really like Wo Hop chinese food on a late night. That’s my favorite spot right now.

Do you have a favorite chiddy bang song?

My favorite Chiddy Bang song changes all the time. Some of my favorites are on the album and haven’t come out yet, and I can’t divulge any information on that. My favorite song at this moment is “Under the Sheets” tomorrow it might be “Truth” or something else like that Stylo remix you know what I mean?

”Under the Sheets” is a great pick. I’ve had that on repeat since it dropped. You and Xaphoon killed that track.

So tell me about working with Black Thought on “Slow Down,” that’s another one of my favorite cuts. What was that like and are there any other plans to work with Tariq or The Roots?

Collaborating with black thought was amazing, man. Anyone aware of The Roots and their contribution to hip hop especially in Philly can appreciate that. He’s a supreme lyricist, a real hard working dude. He came through and we cued up the beat, he wrote his verse and hopped right in the booth and laid it down. It was a surreal moment – he did his thing. The Roots have put us on a bunch of shows and have consistently looked out for us. We opened up at the Highline and we’re doing The Roots Picnic. And yeah, Thought’s gonna be on the album too so look out for that.

”Opposite of Adults” was obviously a breakthrough video for you guys and “The Truth” had a dope video too. Tell me about shooting the video for “Pass Out”

We just got together with some dope dudes you know? we always try to be left of center with our videos and do special things. Shoutout to our team keeping it ever-so creative. We wanted to make something with a guerilla feel to it and the video for with the projections and silly landmarks was sort of one of the more fun videos we did – it was completely Greenscreen. Blue screen, actually haha. It was fun being at the video shoot riding the bicycle and doing all types of crazy stuff like that. The technology worked out dope and everything came out stupid.

What we can expect from the upcoming EP and the album?

The EP is dropping May 18th on iTunes and it’ll have songs like “Opposite of Adults” and “The Truth” and you can expect some new joints on there, but the main thing to expect is the album at the end of the summer. All types of collaborations going on and we got music that is bigger. We have the ability to use all types of instruments now. Swelly Express was on a budget of zero and we got a little bit more of a budget on this album, but to me it’s still all about staying close to our roots. I love recording in a basement or on an airplane or in a small room. I’m never gonna let that go, that grassroots approach to our music.

Man I can’t wait to hear those new joints. Alright, the people want to know: Swishers or Dutches?

Haha I mean, I’m with people in the car right now that say Swishers are better. Swisher Sweetheart rolled like 22 sweets on 4/20. Follow her on twitter! I myself prefer the Dutches. My favorite is actually White Grape Garcia Vega Games. What do you guys rock out there in Bloomington, IN?

Regular swishers. A lot of papers lately you know. Dutches are always a nice treat obviously haha. But what are some things you like to do when you’re not busy on tour, besides the occasional tobacco cigar obviously

I try to play a little basketball from time-to-time. I don’t really play video games, but I guess when I’m not on the road I’ll do that. But I really only have time to do this rap thing.

No doubt. So I was reading on twitter that XV is on the remix for “Never.” I can’t wait to hear that track, what can you tell us about it?

The remix is crazy – you gotta wait for that. Killer Mike is on it too. Might not be on the album because of clearance issues and all that but it’s definitely one of those gems we’re gonna put out for all our loyal fans to enjoy.
