Some people go to house parties for New Years Eve. Others pay ~$150 to go to an overcrowded dance club to wait for hours on end at the bar. For the last few years, it has been a tradition for me to see a show because I’ve always enjoyed live music, and NYE brings out the best in any artist or band. This time, it would be my first time seeing Phish on the special occasion and it was truly an experience of a lifetime. [Note: We don’t post jam bands that often so I understand if you would like to move on to the next post, but you should check it anyways.]
The video above sees Trey and company playing one of their popular songs “Chalkdust Torture” and from there on we see a bunch of randoms riding golf carts on and off the stage with midgets in appropriate golfing attire. They played three sets that night and the third one was golf themed song names (i.e. Sand, The Wedge, Wilson, etc.) Around the 10:45 mark is where the countdown starts, which leads to a colorful rendition of the official NYE song “Auld Lang Syne” followed by a beautiful balloon drop, then a reprise of Tweezer with the help of background singers. Needless to say, it will be very hard to top this experience.
Because MJF loves you, I have attached a few MP3s of some standouts from their four night run at The Garden. Hope you enjoy and pass these on to friends! Did you go to a concert on New Years Eve? Let us know!
