Twigs is a new entrant to the burgeoning group of singer songwriters who rely less on traditional instrumentation in favour of laying their poetry over more lavish electronic backdrops (think Grimes, Bats For Lashes and of course, James Blake).
With Breathe , the British newcomer delivers plaintive, breathy vocals over a glitchy loop of clacking electronic drums and guitar stabs. There’s no easy way for me to describe this artist, and if asked to describe her sound (with a gun to my head), I’d clumsily go with “a less layered, Gothic Imogen Heap.”
Check out her EP available right now on Bandcamp, and keep an eye out for more of Twigs in 2013.
